Natural Cosmetics
Generally speaking the word "natural" denotes cosmetics that do not contain industrial chemical components, but not necessarily ones that have been grown using organic methods.
All too often "natural" is confused with "organic", but in actual fact the difference between the two is enormous.
To begin with so-called "natural" products are not subject to stringent checks because currently no world standards exist that regulate the use of the word "natural".
The opposite applies to cosmetics defined as "organic". These, on the other hand, are subject to checks by an authorized body for certification in accordance with international community regulations.
In Italy organic production methods are governed by EU standard EC/834/2007 which lays down the guidelines for production, the raw materials that may be used, checks and certification, imports from third countries, and more importantly, labelling. It is important to remember that the label should always bear the quality control and certification body and the label printing authorization number.
So "natural" does not necessarily mean "organic". Organic production methods involve the entire agricultural ecosystem, rely on the natural fertility of the soil, promote biodiversity, eliminate the use of GMOs and strive to safeguard the environment, man and animals.
